Grimston
Grimston is an historic village occupied since before the Roman times. Today it is a thriving close knit community situated in a delightful picturesque rural village. The area is surrounded by gently undulating wooded countryside with unrivalled opportunities for walking, bird watching and enjoying nature. The coast with its sandy beaches and bird reserves is only 15 minutes by car. Or if you want, you can get the Coast hopper bus and let someone else do the driving!
Nearby Roydon Common is one of the country's outstanding bird watching sites and is within easy strolling distance. Titchwell and Salthouse Marsh are both close and much enjoyed by "twitchers".
Grimston itself, has all traditional amenities. the village store is well stocked, providing fresh fruit and vegetables all grown locally; fresh bread and bakery products. It offers post office services, off licence, newspapers, and lottery sales, all delivered with welcoming friendly smiles.
Three pubs are within easy distance. All the pubs provide a range of food from pub grub to posh nosh. For an extra special meal Congham Hall provides an a la carte menu and also does wonderfully indulgent afternoon teas. They also have a spa facilities within the hotel.
Grimston Church, St Botolph's, hosts many community events including an art exhibition which enjoys royal patronage. It is a warm, welcoming church, and well worth a visit. St Andrew's at Congham is well worth a look, it is approached via a delightful wooded track and is the quintessential village church.
Latch cottage is central for so many interests. Leziate country park hosts kayaking, boating and water sports, as well as sports facilities, lovely walks and special events.
There are numerous equine events held throughout the region. Fakenham race course holds horse races (and even camel racing). Burnham Market hosts its famous horse trials annually. Houghton House has several events throughout the year, and there are regular country fairs held. Sandringham stud is worth a visit as well.
Congham itself, hosts a far slower paced race event, its world renowned Snail Racing championship. This annual event takes place around the weekend of July 18th and it attracts visitors from around the world!!
Bircham Windmill does superb cream teas and has lovely craft days throughout its season in the summer. A very interesting day out. It also has a bakery on site which have a delicious range of bread cakes and pastries. Stock up!
Sandringham estate provides the opportunity for beautiful walks, craft fairs, game fairs and tours around the Queen's estates. There are many other stately homes nearby. Oxborough, Felbrigg, Houghton Hall and Holkham to name but a few, as well as many lovely gardens.
King's Lynn is a unique historic town with a fascinating past. It hosts the world renownwed Music festival featuring top names from the world of classical music and dance. This takes place in July/August. March sees the Literary festival come to town. Kings Lynn has two theatres, concert halls, a cinema, museums, art galleries, excellent shopping malls, and two busy markets on Tuesday and Saturdays.
Nearby Walsingham is a fascinating mediaeval village with its Holy Mile and national shrines. It is unique and unspoiled. The Walsingham farm shop has won many prestigious awards and is a must for "foodies". The Norfolk Riddle there does the best fish and chips traditionally cooked over coals.
